Match Reports
2nd Nov 03 Phoenix Utd v Country Club Score: 4-0
For the first time this season Phoenix were able to put out its strongest
squad of the season so far, and oh how it showed! On a muddy and bumpy pitch
Phoenix took control of the game from the start only allowing Country Club 2
chances throughout the whole game.
Every player played exceptionally well, the 4 goals were scored from top
scorer Nat Anderson who got the first 2 followed by another brace from Sammi
who also had a fantastic game.
Dana was awarded player of the match with other notable top performances
from Claudia in goal, Kates on the wing, Lisa at the back and Shiv’s link
play upfront. All in all a top performance as Phoenix keep marching on.....
26th Oct 03 Camberley Town v Phoenix Utd Score: 2-3
Yet again this was another fine display of good Phoenix teamwork assuring a 3rd win.
One of the goals came from the reliable twinkle toes of Nat Anderson, Siobhan Davies
opened up her scoring account with the 2nd goal and Nat 'on the left' Lucas wrapped up the game
with the winning goal!
12th Oct 03 Croydon Postal v Phoenix Utd Score: 5-0
No comment.
5th Oct 03 Phoenix v Acton FC Score: 0-4
With the Phoenix fire burning like a bad case of piles we were ready
to give Acton their first loss of the season. We started promisingly, but soon
after Acton's first goal, our heads began to drop and frustration kicked in.
Even our coach who filled in for the absent ref couldn't turn the game around.
To Acton's credit, they
deserved to win - at least 2 goals were unstoppable, and the other 2 was down to their
compact passing that broke down our midfield and defence. We did have a couple of chances
to score, but they were squandered. If it weren't for our goalie,
Claudia Celadon and a cracking performance from our centre sweeper, Lisa Hunter,
and a few unnoticed hands of god it could've been a rugby scoreline. We did
well to come second, (ahem).
28th Sept 03 Country Club v Phoenix Score: 3-4
A plethora of goals began when the home team opened up the scoring in
the first 10 minutes with a lob that would've fooled Peter Schmeichel
on stilts. But it didn't matter because the next goal was a Country Club
own goal helpfully set up by a corner-kick by Perm (Sarah Finley). The
half time break swiftly came and went and Phoenix dominated the second
half. Perm yet again showed off her finishing finesse with another corner
kick that bent sweetly into the top right corner of the net. To top off
the game Nat Anderson unleashed 2 cannon-like shots to make it 3-4 at
90mins. There were 2 other goals by the Country Club, but since they lost
its not worth mentioning.
14th Sept 03 South London v Phoenix Score: 2-3
After what can only be descibed as an epic journey with our mini-bus breaking
down and the nearest tube being closed due to flooding we arrived with
minutes to change and warm up!
The first fifteen minutes were not our best show of football leading to
the oppositions first goal which was a great free kick from just outside
the area. Then Kate Greenwood scored by a well timed run from a great
assist by Renee Dela Cruz, leaving the opposition shouting off-side.
Phoenix
was then disallowed a goal as the referee deemed our player to have impeded
the goalkeeper. This fuelled our spirit for the start of the second half
which resulted in another classy goal from Natalie Anderson which was
again assisted by Renee Dela Cruz. We were leading and only had to hold
them for ten minutes when they scored again, but the Phoenix fire doesnt
go out that easily and we clinched the winner with a lob from Kate Greenwood
in the closing minutes. A very well earned three points by a fantastic
team effort!
7th Sept 03 Phoenix v Croydon Postal Score: 1-2
We kicked off our season with a tough game against a side that have just
been relgated form the first division. Our new striker Natalie Anderson scored a great goal with the outside of her right
foot to equalise before the end of the first half but we could'nt hold
them to the draw that we felt we deserved. But we will get them on their home turf.
